Welcome to Echo the Story
Discover the Art of Bible Storying...
For thousands of years, stories were the key means for Jewish and Christian people to learn and experience God. Echo desires to recapture this sacred art of biblical storytelling, inspiring new generations to find themselves in God's Story.

Echo uses a process called Storying (short for Chronological Bible Storying) - a sequential telling of Bible stories followed by a time of review and dialogue. Derived from the ancient Hebrew way of learning through careful observation and discussion, Storying was rediscovered a few decades ago by missionaries who are now using this method extensively around the world. Recently, Storying is also proving to be effective with youth and adults in our media-literate, story-oriented North American context.

The purpose of Storying is to create an environment for us to connect with God through the whole Bible Story.

Desired Outcomes of Storying

As we participate in Storying, we desire to...

  • Become a story-formed community, developing deep friendships with each other

  • Listen for and expect God to speak through his Story to and through each other

  • See the Bible as one big interconnected story, revealing God’s plan to rescue and restore us

  • Gain a sense of awe, wonder, and amazement of God

  • Discover our identity and role in God’s Story—as a distinct people called to live in God’s ways

  • Fulfill our role as a community, bringing God’s blessing and restoration to the world

  • Grow in our desire to read and dig deeper into the Bible

  • Develop a mental timeline of God’s Story, giving context and a foundation for future Bible learning

  • Incorporate creative learning methods and expression into our community to connect with varying styles

  • Have fun while learning—laugh and enjoy being together

  • Encourage more Bible “storyers” to emerge

“The stories came alive to our students—the more they talked about them, the more they saw different ways they connected to their lives. They were learning for themselves—and this learning sticks! I was right there with the students...the stories came alive for me, too!”

- RACHEL, VOLUNTEER

“Our lives must find their place in a greater story... or they will find their place in a lesser story.”

- H. STEPHEN SHOEMAKER
