STORY, EXPERIENCE & INTERACTIVITY: Exploring New Environments for Learning
A new day-long workshop is designed to help you creatively engage people in their own learning.
PART ONE: Teaching through Story & Dialogue
Facilitator: Michael Novelli
After more than a decade in youth ministry, Michael felt like he had tried everything to help his students connect with the Bible. Then, Michael learned the art of “Storying” a sequential telling of Bible stories followed by creative retelling and imaginative dialogue. God used this process to completely transform his youth group as they began to discover themselves in a greater story. Together, we’ll explore this amazing process of Bible Storying, and see how it can help our students discover their identity and calling in God’s story.
Michael Novelli is the founder of
Echo, developing interactive resources, curriculum, experiences and events to help students, educators and youth workers learn in new ways.
PART TWO: Creating Multi-sensory Experiences
Facilitator: Lilly Lewin
We live in a visual culture where only 20% of the world learns through their ears...so why is it that most church still based on auditory learning! How do we engage the rest of us in the story of God? Through multi-sensory worship / prayer! We will learn the process of going from a scripture passage to a prayer station and beyond! And we’ll discuss how to build a team to help make creative, experiential worship happen in your community.
Lilly Lewin helps leaders think creatively about worship, teaching and ministry. She uses multi-sensory prayer, silence, art, discussion and multi media, integrating ancient and future forms of worship to bring liturgy new life.
PART THREE: Re-imagining Gatherings
Facilitator: Mark Novelli
While working with a high school youth ministry, Mark discovered that shifts in culture and technology were causing students to connect and learn in new ways. This began his journey of looking for deeper, more effective ways of worshiping, teaching and gathering. Mark will share his experiences and learnings in hopes to inspire us to explore new approaches in our gatherings.

CREATIVE RESPONSE: Connections and Implications
Faciltator: Kelly Dolan
Host and discussion moderator Kelly Dolan will guide us through a time of exploring how the day’s learnings and experiences have meaning in our own ministry contexts. Art, discussion, listening and journaling stations will provide us the opportunity to reflect and integrate elements from the workshop into our lives and ministries.
